Course Description:

Practical Workplace Math

Too many test candidates throw up their hands when it comes to math problems.

Math is an exact language for description, calculation, and deduction.  The whole point of math is to make ideas real for the participant. This workshop will consist of easy-to-grasp shortcuts and formulas for figuring business math problems and practice exercises solving word problems, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Where do we use math?

At home: I prepare dinner for 4.

At work: I can only do 30 minutes of overtime.

In court: Would you believe that same violation repeated 9 times.

In transit: Our train is being held in the station another 6 minutes.

In sports: The team won by 23 points.

Where else?  Lotto. Home. School. Work. Everywhere.
Why math?  Math describes how much, how many, recognizes patterns, inductive reasoning, make estimation. fair trade/find bargains, help negotiations, efficiency.
Any ideas.

Ideas like fractions, for example.

The fact that 2/3 is smaller than 3/4 matters in the real world.

Ideas like retro-pay, for example.

“An employee's current salary is $49,876.  A raise was approved for 2% for year 1, 3% for year 2, and 2.5% for year three.  It is now year three.  How much retro-pay should the employee receive for year 1 and year 2?"

This workshop will consist of easy-to-grasp shortcuts and formulas for solving math problems, including fractions, decimals, percentages, and math word problems.

Targeted Audience/Advanced Preparation: Administrative and technical professionals, managers, supervisors, and exam test candidates seeking Helpful Reminders
